The Cook County Sheriff's Department has not been enforcing the controversial marijuana law that is now in place.
Last summer, the county commissioners passed a law that gave officers the choice when handling the situation. The officers could either arrest people who had 10 grams or less of marijuana, or write them a $200 ticket. Since the law has been passed there has not been one ticket issued or a single arrest made. The Cook County Sheriff, Tom Dart, states that he was never consulted about the bill and he also claims that the law is not uniform enough.
