An electrical fire at a Rancho Cordova apartment complex exposed a legal but improper marijuana grow.
The fire broke out before 10 p.m. near International Drive. Firefighters said the second-floor tenant had the right permits but didn't have proper electrical connections. He ended up overloading the electrical system, sparking a fire. Even before firefighters arrived, neighbors sprung into action to keep the fire from spreading. "One of the other tenants had already got the door open and had a fire extinguisher up there. I looked inside. There was enough clearance to crawl on the floor. I grabbed the fire extinguisher and crawled to the rear of the unit and put the fire out. And then got out and called the fire department," neighbor Scott Davidson said. No one was hurt. Sacramento Metro Fire spokesman Christian Pebbles said the department has seen an increase in electrical fires sparked by legal and illegal marijuana grows, creating a potentially fatal situation.
