Inside these doors on Michigan Ave., there is a lobby full of people waiting to pick up their medical marijuana. We're not allowed to videotape inside-- for privacy policies, we're told.
"We give patients a safe place to come and get their meds. We now have over 20 strains to choose from," says Ryan Basore. Basore is the co-founder of Capital City Caregivers, a place where medical marijuana patients get their medicine. Typically they get the medicine and take it home to use it. But if they need to, they can smoke the marijuana on the premises. That is just one of many issues lawmakers are trying to refine. "I want to ban marijuana bars and clubs, places where people go to consumer products and then drive home," says Rep. Rick Jones, (R) Grand Ledge. Jones isn't talking necessarily about CCC, which requires a designated driver if you want to smoke on site. But he is worried about clubs like Green Leaf University in Williamston, a place where people come to medicate. "the law that passed-- i think michigan expected someone in pain to use the product in their own home. I don't object to that. I do object to bars or clubs like the one in williamston." 56:06 But Jones' proposed legislation is just one example of the attempts being made to deal with the law. Friday, prosecutors, law enforcement and city and township leaders from Ingham, Eaton and Clinton counties got together to begin discussions on a potential counties-wide ordinance that would better explain the laws. Basore just wants his patients rights protected. "Their (the lawmakers) attitude is how can we control all these criminals that are using marijuana? The way we look at it is how do we help our patients?" NewsHawk: Ganjarden: 420 MAGAZINE Source: WILX.com Author: Lauren Zakalik Contact: WILX.com Copyright: 2010 Gray Television, Inc.
