Masked assailants came into a home at 2** Deuel St. in Fort Morgan on Sunday, injuring one person and stealing medical marijuana, cash and a backpack worth a total of about $1,865.
Apparently two people invaded the home of Aaron Simons, 24, from the back of the house, and one of them struck Simons in the head with a pipe before gathering the goods and leaving fairly quickly about 1:57 a.m., said Lt. Jared Crone of the Fort Morgan Police Department. There was damage to a screen on a window at the back of the house, and police were told it seemed like the criminals broke in through the back door, Crone said. Jessie Thompson, 21, also of Fort Morgan, and Rodrick Boltjes, 28, of Aurora were also in the house at the time. The robbers` faces were covered, so none of those in the house said they knew who the robbers were, or even whether they were male or female, Crone said. The pipe that injured Simons was reported to be shaped like a bong, and left him with injuries to his head, Crone said. Simons was transported to Colorado Plains Medical Center. This is the first time a robbery has occurred in Fort Morgan involving medical marijuana, FMPD records show. However, it is uncertain whether the robbery was specifically targeting the marijuana, Crone said. If stealing the medical marijuana was the goal, it might mean that someone in the house would know the people who broke in if they had not been masked, he said. One of the charges the assailants could face is aggravated robbery, Crone said.
