A lot of hype has been popping up down here in California about Proposition 19. On the ballot for November, Proposition 19 legalizes various marijuana-related activities, allows local governments to regulate them, and
allows them to impose and collect their own rates and taxes. It also puts into play various new criminal and civil penalties, such as distributing marijuana to a minor and driving under the influence. Here in Southern California, I have been aware of medicinal marijuana use for quite a while now as California was the first state of the nation to make cannabis legal for medical use. Medicinally, in Riverside County you can only have 12 marijuana plants. With the passing of Prop 19, private residences may grow up to 25 square feet of marijuana, allowing marijuana users to cultivate more medicine as 25 square feet will yield much more than only 12 plants alone. Although I am sure current medicinal marijuana users will not mind either way, as 12 plants is much more than enough for a personal sized stock of medicine. When I first went to the doctor for this unbearable scratching I would get on my legs he couldn't diagnose it because he hadn't seen it before. So I went to a few other doctors and a couple of them said it was stress that was causing it, so I got prescribed Xanax and some other pills and creams. I didn't like Xanax and when I took them I just didn't feel the same as the old me, so I thought about natural stress relieving alternatives. I looked into medical marijuana and remembered how happy my days were back in high school. I knew it wasn't just because I was smoking marijuana back then but I decided why not give it a try, as opposed to all these weird pills and creams that I was prescribed. I went to a doctor that approved of marijuana as medicine and explained to him my situation. The doctor was glad to hear I had found a natural remedy to all the pills for some small, stress related issue. I became a medical marijuana patient for stress so I personally don't use a lot of medicine, just enough to take the stress off. In the morning I just smoke a joint before I get ready to work so I can concentrate on my job when I'm there. I build battery backup systems for telephone towers, so there is a lot of small, complicated soldering work to be done. When I get back from work I usually smoke a bit out of my vaporizer to wind down before bed, maybe a joint or two if I'm not alone. It costs me hardly anything as I use the sun to prepare my medicine, so all I pay for is the water! Back when I first changed prescriptions from Xanax to marijuana I would go to a local dispensary to buy my medication. It was pretty cheap for me as I don't smoke a lot. One eighth ($60) would usually last me about two weeks. This was far cheaper than the combined prescriptions of the Xanax plus creams. Now I just use the outdoors as opposed to some people using indoor lights and such. I believe Proposition 19 is the way to go for California. I'm all for marijuana being used as medicine only but California is in a budget crisis and I believe if done correctly, California can use marijuana and the taxes they impose on it to seriously help our state out of debt. But If it doesn't pass I think California will still take it into consideration on the next California statewide ballot.
