Default Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. Opposes Beer Distribs Donation to No on Prop 19

We've always liked Sierra Nevada beer and now have an even better reason to: The Chico, California brewery has condemned the $10,000 contribution given to the No on Prop 19 campaign by the California Beer and Beverage Distributors, stating: "The CBBD does not represent Sierra Nevada’s political interests in any way, and does not represent the brewery’s stance on the issue."

Preferring to remain publicly neutral on Prop 19, the beer company was incensed by the CBBD's unilateral decision to fund the campaign to defeat Prop 19, which would legalize marijuana if passed by California voters on Nov. 2.

"A beer industry group surprised us by linking our name in with their opposition," Sierra Nevada maintained in a statement publishered by an industry website. "We had no idea it was happening and we disagree with their position... The CBBD is an industry group that represents the interests of beer distributors and members. Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. and many other independent craft brewers are associate members of the CBBD.

"Although we are members of this organization, we were neither consulted - nor informed of - their decision to take a stand against California Proposition 19. Sierra Nevada’s role as an associate member grants no access or influence on the political agendas of the CBBD, and we had no knowledge of the organization’s intention to fight this ballot proposition... We’ve requested the CBBD to remove our name from their list of members, and also to disassociate the brewery from this and any future political actions... We regret any implied association with this action by the CBBD, and maintain our independence and neutrality regarding matters of politics."

Last week, CelebStoner reported that $81,000 has been contributed to No on Prop 19 as of Sept. 9 - $56,000 from police associations. On Sept. 20, the California Correctional Supervisors Organization donated $7,500, making a grand total of $88,5000 so far - $63,500 from police associations.

Sierra Nevada is celebrating its 30th anniversary. Support the brewery known for Pale Ale and their seasonal brands.
