The Green Party candidate for governor says Illinois should legalize and tax marijuana, but his opponents disagree.
Green candidate Rich Whitney says Illinois could bring in about $300 million a year by taxing marijuana. That's one of the ideas he discussed in a closed-door forum with the other candidates. Whitney, Democrat Pat Quinn and Republican Bill Brady met privately with the Civic Federation of Chicago's board of directors Thursday. Afterward, both Quinn and Brady said marijuana should remain illegal.
