Fijian rugby officials have tested negative for the drug cannabis, after the Fiji Rugby Union (FRU) ordered independent tests on 14 of its staff.
The decision to implement the tests came after allegations that team officials had used the drug before Fiji's test match against Australia in June. Urine tests were conducted by the Fiji Sports Drug Agency and all samples returned a negative result. FRU chief executive Timoci Tavanavanua said: "I hope this puts to an end the baseless speculation in the media of the use of drugs within the national team management. "Several officials have been severely hurt by these false allegations. I hope those media that helped spread this grog-bowl gossip will have the decency to come clean and apologise."
