Marlowe Named Chapter Director

Americans for Safe Access ( ASA ), an organization that protects the rights of cannabis patients, announces the opening of its newest chapter located in Mill Spring.

Jean Marlowe of Mill Spring has been appointed as the chapter director.

Plans are in the works for rallies, petition drives and educational forums both on a state and a federal level.

The formation of a chapter in Mill Spring comes after Steve Marlowe was arrested last month by the Polk County Sheriff's Office on charges related to growing marijuana.

Steve Marlowe says he was growing the marijuana for Jean Marlowe, who says she needs the marijuana for medical purposes because of a defective liver. Steve Marlowe says he also grows marijuana for medical purposes for an MS patient.

Jean Marlowe says cases against her in the past were dismissed and she will fight the charges against Steve Marlowe.

The Polk County Chapter of Americans for Safe Access ( ASA ) will be holding regular monthly meetings and sponsoring public educational events.

ASA is the nation's largest organization of patients, medical professionals, scientists and concerned citizens promoting safe and legal access to cannabis ( marijuana ) for therapeutic use and research.

ASA says it works to overcome political and legal barriers by creating policies that improve access to medical cannabis for patients and researchers through legislation, education, litigation, grassroots actions, advocacy and services for patients and the caregivers.

ASA has over 30,000 active members with chapters and affiliates in more than 40 states.

The organization says it is working to change federal policy to meet the immediate needs of patients as well as create long-term strategies for safe access and programs that encourage research.

The ASA mission is to ensure safe and legal access to cannabis for therapeutic uses and research.
