A father of three from Goodwood, who admitted having close to 50 grammes of compressed marijuana and seeds hidden below a mattress at his home on February 16, was last week ordered to pay a fine of $5,000 forthwith or serve 24 months in prison with hard labour when he appeared before Magistrate Joan Gill in the Scarborough First Court.
"I am sorry for disrespecting the law and I beg for your leniency please," Churchill Garcia pleaded with the Magistrate, having pleaded guilty to the charge laid by Constable Thomas, of the Scarborough CID. Garcia had two previous convictions, one of which was for a similar offence in 2004, the court was told. The court heard that around 6 a.m. February 16, Thomas and other officers executed a search warrant for dangerous drugs at Garcia's home at James Street in the district. The search turned up a white piece of plastic containing 46.8 grammes of compressed marijuana, along with 3.57 grammes of seeds in another piece of white plastic, under a mattress in a bedroom, the court was told. Meanwhile, in the same court, Lorenzo Duke, of Louis D'or Land Settlement, was ordered to pay a $1,500 fine for being in possession of 2.2 grammes of marijuana, in the form of a "joint" which he was at the time smoking, along a roadway in the district on February 16. That day around 9.30 a.., the court heard, SRP Constable Maurice Goddard and other officers were on inquiries when they spotted Duke smoking the unusually long cigarette. http://www.420magazine.com/forums/in...y-5-000-a.html |
