A MAN was jailed for two years after a gust of wind revealed a cannabis farm growing in his house. James Stuart Wildon was found to be growing more than 70 cannabis plants at his home on June 11 last year.
The operation, funded largely by his benefits, was spotted by a plain-clothed policeman as he was walking down an alley behind the house. A sudden gust of wind blew back a curtain to reveal industrial lamps hanging from the ceiling. Wildon, 41, of Rydal Street, Hartlepool, was sentenced to two years for producing a Class C drug at Teesside Crown Court yesterday. He had earlier pleaded guilty. Shaun Dryden, prosecuting, said: "A gust of wind blew the curtain back and the officer was able to see industrial lamps hanging from the ceiling and aroused suspicion." Two men were also seen walking past the window carrying trays of what looked like cannabis seedlings. Wildon tried to refuse police entry to the house, but he was arrested and the house searched. They found 25 cannabis plants being grown under industrial lights in a back bedroom, and a further 52 smaller plants elsewhere in the house. Mr Dryden added Wildon had spent between £400 and £500 on the operation, and expected to double his money when he sold them. In interview, he admitted growing the plants for between six and seven weeks to make money. Robin Denny, mitigating, said Wildon used cannabis to relieve back pain and there was no evidence any plants had been sold. Many were also still at the seedling stage, he added. Judge Michael Taylor described the set-up as a commercial production line in the early stages. He said: "It is not known how many would have come through to maturity but industrial lights and procedures were in operation and you had taken some trouble to set it up. "This sort of activity in this part of the world is all too prevalent and needs to be stamped out." "You knew you were taking a risk. Unfortunately, it has not paid off for you." http://www.420magazine.com/forums/in...abis-farm.html |
