Police were called to Trinidad's east coast beaches last night to try and prevent bales of marijuana, dumped at sea by traffickers, from floating ashore and getting into the hands of drug hunters. And the Coast Guard were up to nightfall conducting grid searches of the water around Radix Point off Ortoire Village, where four men were seen dumping the drugs.
The waters off Manzanilla and Mayaro are a growing transhipment point for narcotics coming from South America. At least four murders in Mayaro and Manzanilla since last December have been linked to the trade. At around 10 a.m. yesterday, officers of the Special Anti Crime Unit (SAUTT) reported the activities of four men on a fishing boat and called in a Coast Guard speed boat. Police said the suspects were arrested and six bales of what is believed to be compressed marijuana were retrieved. But several bales were reportedly lost at sea,. Officers from Tunapuna, Rio Claro, Sangre Grande, Mayaro and Manzanilla were called out to help in the search. http://www.420magazine.com/forums/in...ja-dumped.html |
