Default Torbay Police Seized 25 Cannabis Plants Worth Hundreds of Pounds

Torbay police seized 25 cannabis plants worth hundreds of pounds in Kingskerswell during a series of raids across South Devon yesterday. In a second raid, police snared what they believe to be cannabis at a property in Hele in Torquay.

In the third raid, officers also executed a drugs warrant at an address in San Remo Terrace, Dawlish.

The raids were timed to be part of National Tackling Drugs week.

All of the warrants were issued under the Misuse of Drugs Act.

Six officers from Paignton-based Targeted Policing Team carried out the first raid at 7.30am at the bungalow on Newton Road, Kingskerswell. Officers say they discovered hydroponic growing equipment.

They say they subsequently destroyed all of the plants and equipment believed to have been used to grow cannabis. Sgt Tim Colliver, who led the Kingskerswell and Hele raids, said: "We will test the cannabis for its strength.

"Most of what we seize, which is grown now with hydroponics, is a lot stronger than what used to be around back in the 1960s."

After staking out the property in Hele, plainclothes police officers swooped on the address where they found what they believe to be a small amount of cannabis. Sgt Colliver, added: "The entire week has been about the whole spectrum of drugs."

He said the day's activities were based on information received.

He added: "The more information that we can get the better our results are."

Officers bagged up both seizures for evidence and both men were taken to Torquay Police Station for questioning. A small quantity of herbal cannabis was found and seized by officers during the Dawlish raids.

A 27-year-old man and a 60-year-old man were both issued with a formal cannabis warning.

An eight man Tactical Aid Team accompanied by several Teignmouth-based officers carried out the raid.

As part of the week-long initiative by the Home Office which highlights the ongoing work of police and partner agencies like probation services to tackle drug-related crimes, officers have also been visiting schools, carrying our roadside enforcement operations and late night drug testing.

A 25-year-old man was charged with alleged production of a controlled Class C substance. He was released on bail and will appear in court at a later date.

A 41-year-old man was charged with possession of cannabis and had been released on police bail to appear in court.
