SUNNY HILLS – Washington County’s dope hunters took to the skies and the roads Wednesday morning with good results. Sgt. Wade Boan and Jackson County Sheriff’s Office’s pilot Robert Wiggins did the spotting while Sgt. Derek Hayes and his team followed their directions to harvest 20 big marijuana plants from Sunny Hills.
“When mature, these plants produce about a pound of dope, valued at $900 to $1,200,” Boan said as the harvest was laid out at the County Jail. With several plants boasting large “buds” the take would be anywhere from $18,000 to $24,000 in street value. Boan said the WCSO works under a US Department of Agriculture program whereby WCSO is paid for each plant. That’s several thousands of dollars a year for WCSO to use for equipment or other needs. Boan said growers plant the marijuana in the middle of street blocks in vacant portions of Sunny Hills. The plants are usually spread out in an attempt to conceal them, “but marijuana plants really stand out from the air,” Boan said. The plants look bright green in the sunlight and for experienced observers like Boan and Wiggins it was relatively easy to spot the large, bushy plants. The plants are gathered and burned at the end of the year, Boan said. Sheriff Bobby Haddock congratulated the officers for their efforts, and said more is forthcoming. “It’s part of the war on drugs, it’s part of the puzzle,” Haddock said Wednesday. “Since Wade took over the program we’ve made numerous arrests and have made several arrests already this year.” http://www.420magazine.com/forums/in...on-county.html |
