Local and federal law enforcement eradicated around 5,000 marijuana plants from properties in Southern Humboldt during a four-day raid dubbed “Green Acres.”

According to Casey McEnry, spokeswoman for the Drug Enforcement Administration, the federal law enforcement agency led four Humboldt County Sheriff's officers onto suspected commercial marijuana growing sites on Reed Mountain and Woods Ranch starting Aug. 11.

McEnry said around 4,000 plants were taken from Reed Mountain, and the Humboldt County Sheriff's Office reported 947 plants were taken from Woods Ranch.

No arrests have been made, and McEnry would not say whether suspects have been identified.

”It's harvest season in Humboldt County,” said Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Brenda Godsey. “It's an ongoing issue we see. It's not unusual that federal authorities offer their assistance. Anytime that's offered to us here we accept that offer.”

McEnry would not comment on specifics about the raid, but Godsey said sheriff's personnel reported the DEA used a helicopter to fly over the area and call in ground teams once outdoor grow fields were identified.

Godsey said the raid primarily targeted outdoor growing operations. But she added there may have been some indoor cultivation on the raided properties, as well.

The suspected commercial grow at Reed Mountain was raided over three days, from Monday through Wednesday. The Woods Ranch property was raided Thursday.

Godsey said oftentimes “anything less than several thousand (marijuana plants) we just sort of shrug our shoulders. But those plants are worth a lot of money, and are being grown illegally, and we are charged with upholding the laws of California.”
