A Mexico City lawmaker's proposal to legalize marijuana is going up in smoke.
Members of Victor Cirigo's own leftist party, which governs Mexico's capital, are criticizing his proposal to decriminalize the sale of up to five grams of marijuana, possession of up to 30 grams, and cultivation of no more than five cannabis plants. Mayor Marcelo Ebrard said Wednesday the proposal would drive up consumption. Cirigo said legalizing pot would cut into traffickers' profits at a time of surging drug-related violence. He said Tuesday he would ask the city legislature to introduce the reforms in Congress. President Felipe Calderon has proposed offering users treatment instead of jail time. His initiative would not decriminalize possession. http://www.420magazine.com/forums/in...-up-smoke.html |
