Osvaldo Diaz brought a visual aid when he spoke to Mayor John Pomierski and the City Council on Monday evening - a marijuana plant in a plastic cup.
The Upland resident told the council he had no choice but to grow the marijuana for medicinal purposes because he could not get the help he needed from various state agencies. He said he represented the Upland Marijuana Project and that if the country adopted the drug laws of Amsterdam, it would take away the "forbidden fruit" factor and there would not be a fear of the Drug Enforcement Administration or "overzealous law enforcement." Diaz ended his speech with a quote from a song written by Tom Petty. Capt. Jeff Mendenhall of the Upland Police Department had a front-row seat and walked Diaz out of the building once he was finished with his speech. "He claimed to have a medical marijuana card, and we will check into the validity of the card," Mendenhall said. On Tuesday, police Sgt. Cliff Mathews said the plant "was legal and for medicinal purposes." http://www.420magazine.com/forums/in...t-council.html |
