Alaska State Troopers say they are investigating two marijuana growing operations. Troopers say investigators on August 17th traveled by boat up the Kuskokwim River to a logging camp near Red Devil, a community of 36 about 250 miles west of Anchorage. Using a search warrant, they dismantled a complex marijuana grow.
Troopers say suspects had been growing marijuana in two underground rooms and one commercial facility above ground, and together the rooms had a capacity of 400 plants. Investigators seized 18 plants, six pounds of processed marijuana, packaging equipment, and growing equipment valued at about 20,000 dollars. Troopers say residents of McGrath and Aniak contributed to the success of the operation. On Saturday, troopers seized 295 plants and more than a quarter million dollars at a grow operation at Tok. They also seized five guns, including three compact assault rifles.
