Default Should The State Indulge In Moral Policing?

I AM shocked when Ram Sena, Shiv Sena and MNS practice their sort of moral policing. But what about the State’s moral policing?

I am equally shocked when the Union minister of Health Ramdoss cannot ban production of tobacco but bans smoking in public and smoking in cinema leaving people to chew gutkas full of tobacco; when certain states, at certain times, enforce prohibition so that not only revenue on excise duty on liquor is lost by the state but people have to drink doctored whiskey and hooch so that many people die and smugglers make hay; when c*****e is banned so that Maninder Singh, a national level cricketer is put to shame; when hashish, charas, ganja and bhang etc. are banned, which makes smugglers shine because they get a huge black market; when certain books are banned stating that they hurt the religious sentiments of a community or are otherwise profane and this only helps smugglers again; when dance bars are banned leaving bar girls without employment; when Gehlot wants to ban pubs and discos.

If moral policing by an organisation is bad, moral policing by the State is equally bad. In moral policing by an organisation, the goons belonging to that organisation beat up people. When there is moral policing by the State, the role of the goons is taken over by the police. Still people want that the State may do the moral policing but no organisation should do indulge in it. Is it fair?

And I may add that when certain activities like drinking or smoking or books are banned, there is a greater urge on the part of the younger generation to indulge in that activity. In fact banned books sell more than the books which are not banned. Who gains from such mindless moral policing is a million dollar question!
