BROWNSVILLE — A state trooper checking an abandoned school bus in Laredo found himself in a “cloned” vehicle concealing almost five tons of marijuana, police said Tuesday.
The Texas Department of Public Safety is asking for public tips on Saturday's discovery along U.S. 59. DPS spokesman Tom Vinger said the bus likely was purchased at an auction and reconfigured to make it appear to be part of a local school district fleet. “We consider it a cloned vehicle — basically a vehicle masquerading as a legitimate school district bus,” he said. The trooper smelled a very strong odor of marijuana upon entering the bus. He found 560 bundles of marijuana weighing 9,210 pounds hidden under cardboard and in a secret ceiling compartment. The marijuana is valued at $3.9 million. It is the second largest seizure by DPS during routine traffic enforcement since 1997, the agency said. http://www.420magazine.com/forums/in...marijuana.html |
