Six children have been taken from their parents after police officers, conducting two search warrants, discovered them living in marijuana grow operations.
On Thursday, members of the Southern Alberta Marijuana Investigative Team (SAMIT) burst into a home in the 100 block of Suncrest Way S.E. and discovered 120 marijuana plants worth $90,000. Staff Sgt. Monty Sparrow said two children, ages 18 months and four, were found living inside and were apprehended by Child and Family Services. "The children's father, 35, and mother, 24, were arrested and charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking, theft of electricity and proceeds of crime," said Sparrow. The next day, police raided a home in the 200 block of Whitefield Dr. N.E. and inside 313 marijuana plants valued at $356,820, two pounds of marijuana worth $3,000, and six pounds of marijuana leaves valued at $3,000 were discovered. Four children, ranging in ages from six to 16, were found inside and were also apprehended. The 37-year-old mother, along with a 19-year-old man, was charged.
