Medical marijuana legislation passed its first hurdle Wednesday in Springfield. An Illinois House committee voted 4-to-3 to legalize the use of marijuana for medical purposes.
Representative Lou Lang says his bill would help people deal with cancer, AIDS and other diseases. The Skokie Democrat says patients would be allowed to own up to seven marijuana plants each. LANG: The idea here is to let people let people have what they need to relieve their pain and the severe nausea from chemotherapy, but we don't want people to have the ability to do the wrong thing with these marijuana plants. Lang says he'll lobby other lawmakers for their support before trying to pass it through the full state House. In the "no" column is Representative Patricia Bellock. The Hinsdale Republican says the legislation doesn't do enough to keep pot from people who don't need it for medical reasons. http://www.420magazine.com/forums/in...ringfield.html |
