Default Marijuana: California's Savior in Waiting

Two weeks after Assemblyman Tom Ammiano of San Francisco announced legislation, people are still talking about the pros and cons of legalizing marijuana.

According to CNN, marijuana is believed to be California's No. 1 cash inflow, yet they don't take advantage of it.

In order to accrue funds from this potential market, the state is looking at a tax income of more than $1 billion each year.

With our state debt flowing well above $42 billion, with no end in sight to the constant bickering between parties on how to solve our money woes, one illegal substance looks to be California's savior.

Ammiano's measure, AB 390, would be similar to the sales tax on alcohol, barring marijuana from anyone under the age of 21 as well.

According to anti-drug groups, such as 'Save Our Society From Drugs,' legalizing marijuana will bankrupt citizens' moral account by forcing drug dealers to target kids.

Since people already use this illegal drug, the state might as well gain from it. An automatic repercussion would be an immediate decline in drug possession crimes.

California could tax every ounce of marijuana at least $50, otherwise the average price of marijuana would not differ.

There will either be no change in the demand for marijuana and the state will be able to make some profit, or it will lower the demand due to people buying less to because of the new taxes.

Anyway you look at it, it's a win/win situation for California to legalize marijuana use and place a heavy tax on it.

The state wins by giving a little back to its crippled budget and if they happen to lower the use of marijuana in the process then kudos to you California. Two weeks after Assemblyman Tom Ammiano of San Francisco announced legislation, people are still talking about the pros and cons of legalizing marijuana.
