Supporters of legislation that would decriminalize the possession of small amounts of marijuana are holding a rally outside the state Capitol.
The bill passed through the Judiciary Committee this week. It would change the penalty for possessing a half-ounce of marijuana or less from a misdemeanor to an infraction, eliminate the possibility of jail time and cut the maximum fine from $1,000 to $250. People under 18 would continue to be charged under current laws. Supporters plan to rally in Bushnell park at 2 p.m. on Saturday. They say the bill would cut millions in court costs and spare people from lifelong criminal records for what might be a one-time lapse of judgment. Opponents say reducing the penalties could boost the market for marijuana and help its dealers. http://www.420magazine.com/forums/in...juana-law.html |
