A prominent Broward County judge who was part of the Anna Nicole Smith case found himself on the wrong side of the law when police cited him for allegedly smoking a joint in a Hollywood Park.
Police were working on a training course near Hollywood Beach on Sunday afternoon when they smelled something funny in the air. That’s when they discovered Judge Lawrence Korda sitting on a bench and, according to the officers, smoking a joint in Stanley Goldman Park. The officers did not arrest the 59-year-old judge, but issued him a notice to appear in court at a later date. Judge Korda faces misdemeanor charges for marijuana possession. ''Judge Korda was not given special treatment because of his status as a circuit court judge,'' Hollywood police spokesman Tony Rode told the Miami Herald. ``He was provided with a notice to appear. That's exactly what 99% of other offenders would have been given for this type of offense.'' Judge Korda has served on the bench since the 1970s and currently presides in family court. Last month, he dismissed a paternity action brought by one of Anna Nicole Smith's former lovers, ruling that Florida courts had no jurisdiction in the matter.
