Starting May 27, a self-described "medical practice" group from Northridge will open an office in Bakersfield and begin evaluating people for the legal use of medical marijuana.
West Coast Evaluations plans on operating from an office at 2421 Haley Street in northeast Bakersfield. The area is surrounded by businesses and nearby homes. "I'm kind of worried," said Evelyn Melendez. She and her husband often shop at the nearby Foods Co. grocery store. Melendez says such an office would attract unsavory characters and put public safety at risk. On its Web site, West Coast Evaluations state, "We are a medical practice group that provides professional, confidential and efficient evaluations by California licensed physicians and physician assistants for the legal use of medical marijuana. Eligible patients will receive a physician's recommendation." Supervising Deputy District Attorney Mike Yraceburn says as long as the group meets state guidelines, it would probably be legal. "They have to see you, they have to diagnose your problem, they have to determine if there may be other medications that would be better for you than medical marijuana, " says Yraceburn. http://www.420magazine.com/forums/in...ld-office.html |
