SEATTLE -- A man who lived a life of leisure and globe-trotting for nearly 13 years while he dodged federal drug-trafficking and money-laundering charges has been arrested by Mexican authorities in Puerto Vallarta, the U.S. Marshals Service said Thursday.

Jeffery Jay Warren, 57, was one of the Pacific Northwest's most wanted fugitives. A 30-count indictment issued in 1994 charged him and 15 others with smuggling marijuana and hashish into the U.S. by ship. In one raid authorities seized 50,000 pounds of hash.

Warren had been one of four defendants on the lam since 1994. Recent information developed by members of the Pacific Northwest Fugitive Apprehension Task Force led to a potential address and assumed identity for Warren, and U.S. marshals at the American Embassy in Mexico City began working with Mexican law enforcement to apprehend him, the Marshals Service said in a news release.

He was arrested Wednesday at his home. He remained in Mexican custody pending his extradition.
