Fans and opponents of medical marijuana will have their first shot to sway state regulators during a hearing Aug. 19.
The Iowa Board of Pharmacy decided earlier this week to hold a series of hearings on the controversial issue. Friday, the board’s executive director said the first hearing would be from 1 to 5 p.m. Aug. 19 at the State Historical Building in Des Moines. Other hearings are to be held around the state later in the summer and fall, though the times and places have not been set. Board members, most of whom are pharmacists, help determine how drugs are classified in Iowa. They plan to make a recommendation to the Legislature about medical marijuana after hearing Iowans’ opinions on the matter. Marijuana proponents want Iowa to follow 13 other states in allowing its use for patients with chronic pain, nausea and other ailments. Opponents fear such a move would give marijuana legitimacy and encourage its recreational use. http://www.420magazine.com/forums/in...es-moines.html |
