Multiple Sclerosis is a terrible disease. Those with the disease can suffer muscle weakness, muscle spasms, sometimes worse as it affects the central nervous system leading to paralysis. As a result there are problems in speech, swallowing, and going to the bathroom. Also, there can be chronic pain. One way to deal with chronic pain is through the use of medicinal marijuana.
Last year, John Ray Wilson of Franklin Township, N.J. was growing marijuana in his backyard. A helicopter spotted the garden and called the police. Now, he faces up to 20 years in prison for the first-degree maintaining or operating a drug-production facility. State Senators Nicholas Scutari and Raymond Lesniak are urging Governor John Corzine to have the charge dropped against Wilson. Superior Court Judge Robert Reed said that Wilson could not reference his M.S. in the trial. It's up to New Jersey legislators to change the law. His trial is set for this Friday.
