Two Texas men remain behind bars three days after Florida authorities seized nearly 400 pounds of marijuana from the charter bus the men were traveling in along Interstate 10.
A statement from the Florida Department of Transportation said officers arrested the bus driver, Jesus Alejandro Flores, of Uvalde, Texas, and Antonio Garcia Jr., of Carrizo Springs, Texas, and charged them each with trafficking marijuana. Conflicting information the two men gave officers during a conversation led officers to search the bus with the help of a K-9. The K-9 alerted to the passenger side of the bus, giving officers probable cause to search the vehicle. Officers Chris Porter and Jonathan Cook with the Florida Office of Motor Carrier Compliance and Special Operation Team found 380 pounds of marijuana separated into 67 bundles, hidden inside a compartment in the fuel tank of the bus. The marijuana had an estimated street value of about $350,000, and was wrapped in cellophane. Both Flores and Garcia were taken to the Jackson County Jail in Florida. Officers arrested the men Saturday night around 8 p.m. in the eastbound lanes of traffic of I-10 while they attempted to repair a flat tire on the bus. According to the Department of Transportation statement, members of the Florida Highway Patrol contraband interdiction program assisted in the investigation. Robert Hill, a spokesperson with the Jackson County Jail in Florida, said both were being held on a $100,000 bond. Hill said Flores is 27 years old and Garcia is 31 years old. http://www.420magazine.com/forums/in...uana-bust.html |
