One man was shot and three suspects are in custody after a home invasion in Covelo early this morning.

The Mendocino County Sheriff's Office reports that at about 9:05 a.m. this morning, Sheriff's dispatch got a 911 call about a shooting in the Chicken Ridge Subdivision East of Covelo.

Deputies rushed to the subdivision where they met up with Covelo firefighters and learned a man had been shot during a possible home invasion robbery over marijuana. Deputies have interviewed the man who made the call.

The victim received serious injuries from the gunshots and was subsequently airlifted to an out of town hospital with major gunshot wounds where he consequently survived surgery.

Deputies learned that at least three suspects had fled the location in a vehicle witnesses were able to describe. The deputies had communication officers radio broadcast a "Be On the Lookout Bulletin" to neighboring law enforcement with the description of the suspect vehicle, a blue Kia minivan.

At approximately 10:09 a.m. Willits Police officers saw the suspect vehicle and conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle. One of the suspects fled on foot. The two other suspects were detained and are under questioning by law enforcement.

Sheriff Tom Allman said Sunday afternoon that he gives credit to the Willits Police Department for spotting and stopping the van the suspects were driving.

"This is a great example of interagency work," he said. Meanwhile, on Sunday evening, the third man was detained by deputies and security officers at the Black Bart Casino in Willits.
Mendocino County Sheriffs Detectives are continuing to conduct an investigation and following up on leads.
