LAGUNA BEACH — The city banned medical marijuana dispensaries from developing in its limits, citing the difficulties of preventing pot from going into the wrong hands.

The City Council voted unanimously to ban the dispensaries from all zones after hearing a recommendation from the planning commission about the potential problems in regulating dispensaries.

Residents, including representatives from the Laguna Beach Unified School District, voiced concerns about marijuana becoming more accessible to children.

Earlier in the year, some said council members were more supportive of the dispensaries.

Council members put off deciding the dispensaries' fate in February to hear more information from city staff about potential regulations.

After the issue again came before the council in March, the council voted to place a moratorium on making a decision for 6 months instead of the initial 10 proposed by staff.
