MANILA, Philippines - A joint operation launched Sunday afternoon by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency and police in Ilocos Sur province resulted in the uprooting, seizure and burning of marijuana plants and seedlings estimated to be worth more than P100 million.
The marijuana plants and seedlings were seized in 3 plantations located in Sitio Nagawa and Sitio Nava in Barangay Caoayan in Sugpon town in Ilocos Sur. The area is near the the boundaries of 3 provinces – Ilocos Sur, La Union and Benguet. In the first plantation, authorities reportedly seized 120,000 marijuana plants worth P24 million as well as 2,000 marijuana seedlings. In the second plantation, they reportedly seized P76 million worth of marijuana plants while the third plantation purportedly yielded P80,000 worth of marijuana plants. Police immediately burned most of the seized marijuana while a portion was brought to police headquarters as evidence. No suspects were, however, arrested during the joint operation. Police said the tri-boundary area is a favorite among marijuana planters since it is difficult to access. Authorities said they believe that a large portion of the illegal supply of the banned weed in the whole of Northern Luzon comes from the plantations. An operation launched in 2007 in Sugpon had also resulted in the seizure of almost the same volume of marijuana plants http://www.420magazine.com/forums/in...locos-sur.html |
