PLATTSBURGH, NY — Authorities say they nabbed two Canadian women trying to enter the country with a large amount of marijuana.
Clinton County Sheriff’s Department deputies were called to the Champlain border crossing Tuesday after Customs and Border Protection officers allegedly found Elizabeth Deer-Downes and Victoria Giasson with the cannabis. Sheriff’s officials said the pair allegedly tried to hide 34 pounds of pot inside the trunk and rear seat of the vehicle they were in. Authorities said the drugs had a street value of $100,000. Both Deer-Downes, 22, and Giasson, 24, were taken into custody on charges of first-degree possession of marijuana and endangering the welfare of a child. They were sent to Clinton County Jail on $20,000 cash bail or $40,000, which Giasson was later able to post. Deer-Downes was still in custody as of midday Wednesday. They are scheduled to reappear in Champlain Town Court later this week. http://www.420magazine.com/forums/in...bring-pot.html |
