San Jose, CA. - The Federal Government has once again postponed the final settlement hearing with the Wo/Men's Alliance for Medical Marijuana.
This marks the second time in recent months that the Federal government has postponed our settlement hearing at the last minute, giving our lawyers less than 24 hours notice of the postponement. Allen Hopper, our attorney for the case and the Litigation Director for the ACLU Drug Law Reform Project, released this statement: "We have been engaged for some time now in negotiations with the government concerning the possibility of settling or dismissing the WAMM federal lawsuit, in light of the new federal guidance sent from the Department of Justice to U. S. Attorneys, outlining the Obama administration's approach to respecting state medical marijuana laws and those in compliance with them. We are close to agreement but are still working on the final details, and so have agreed to postpone for another week the court appearance set for Friday, January 15. We anticipate the appearance will be set instead for the following Friday, January 22." Mike Corral, Co-Founder and Agricultural Director of WAMM, had this to say: "This second delay illustrates the cruel cynicism of federal authorities in regards to the issue of patients rights. We have spent the last week making arrangements for those WAMM members who are well enough to come to court only to be told with less than 24 hours notice that Department of Justice, Drug Enforcement Agency or whomever cannot figure this out." Valerie Corral, Executive Director and Co-Founder, made this statement: "Last minute changes make it very difficult for seriously ill people who need to make special arrangements for travel. After more than 7 years of waiting, we can certainly wait another week to see that our government does the right thing. The most important work for us to maintain is our service to the sick and dying." http://www.420magazine.com/forums/in...-alliance.html |
