OROVILLE, CA. - Marijuana dispensaries will be the topic of a Butte County Planning Commission workshop scheduled for 9 a.m. Thursday.
On Jan. 12, the Butte County Board of Supervisors passed an emergency interim ordinance banning the operation of medical marijuana dispensaries in the unincorporated areas of the county, and also banned the establishment of any new operations for at least 45 days. At the time, the supervisors directed county staff to investigate ways of regulating or prohibiting dispensaries, including zoning regulations. Under Butte County code, any land use that is not covered by the zoning ordinance is prohibited. At present there is no reference to marijuana dispensaries in the ordinance. Thursday's workshop will be the first public step in the process. The meeting will take place in the Supervisors Chambers in the Administration Building on County Center Drive.
