Nigeria: BBI community in Ndokwa-West Area of Delta state has threatened to sue the National Drug and Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), over alleged unlawful invasion,.
The NDLEA had three weeks ago invaded the community with soldiers and hundreds of policemen raiding the community of cannabis. But following the disillusionment the community has been thrown into, Barrister Joseph Esiobi, legal adviser to the victims Tuesdy in Asaba condemned the invasion, saying in law, "the action is unacceptable, illegal and infringes on the fundamental human rights of the people." Displaced victims of the community are relocating to the neighbouring villages to seek asylum. Stores were allegedly destroyed while deep freezers, money, drinks and other valuable items were among stolen goods. A victim, Mr. Lucky Ossai, whose building was set ablaze at Ogbeti Street said the combined uniformed men, fully armed, came with 15 vehicles and headed to Udo-Ata area of the community only to come back to loot, destroy property ranging from refrigerators, freezers, pumping machines and electronics before setting his house ablaze. Sunday Adelike, another victim of the invasion said that the security men broke into his wife's store and stripped her off her commodities, even as one Olile Williams, a teacher, corroborated Adelike, lamenting the injury inflicted on the community, and describing its as brutish.
