TUCSON, AZ -- Authorities say U.S. Border Patrol agents in southern Arizona seized more than 17,000 pounds of marijuana this week, valued at more than $14 million.
Border Patrol agents in the Western Corridor of the Tucson Sector are being credited with seizing the bulk of marijuana at more than 12,000 pounds. In one case, on Monday night, agents assigned to the Ajo Station using night-vision goggles spotted an SUV driving in the desert without lights. Border Patrol officials say the vehicle's occupants fled into the desert and agents found 77 bundles of marijuana, weighing 1,600 pounds and valued at more than $1.3 million On Wednesday, Ajo agents following tire tracks discovered an abandoned vehicle containing another 1,600 pounds of marijuana.
