Marijuana has been around since 3rd century B.C.E. and originated in South Central Asia. It is a drug that has lasted to the 21st century, where today it is an illegal substance in the United States. A ticket for drug paraphernalia alone in Macomb is $750 dollars without court fees. A possession of marijuana ticket is $250 dollars. So why would someone risk that much for the leafy substance?
"There are a lot of reasons," said a current Western Illinois University sophomore. "It helps relieve stress and it is relaxing. It enhances everyday experiences, and it also makes food more enjoyable." Marijuana is known to give the user a euphoric effect and a "freedom of the mind." It is widely considered taboo in the professional community as well as at the college level. People refer to users as "stoners," "burnouts," "potheads," etc. The list goes on and on. "Yes, (people look at marijuana as taboo) because there are stereotypes that are passed on through generations that people who do (use) do not succeed in life and are lazy," he said. "They may not have tried it so they don't know the effects, and all they know about it is the information given to them. Also, they might have had a bad experience with marijuana." So how does the typical day of a marijuana user go? Well, the first thing they must do is purchase the marijuana. For those wondering how hard it is to purchase marijuana and how much it costs on campus, will be shocked to learn just how simple it really is. On a scale of one to 10, one being the hardest. "I would say a nine; it's pretty easy," he said. "I spend around $20 to $60 a week." Marijuana seems to be the second drug of choice behind alcohol at the college level. One of the stereotypes for users is that their whole day revolves around it. However, this student seemed to downplay the significance of that. "I usually don't plan my day around it," he said. "If I want to do it, I will do it." When asked how frequently he does it, he said, "It varies from day to day. If I have nothing going on, I usually use only once or twice a day." And on the weekend? "I usually use three times a day: once in the morning, once in the middle of the day and once at night." In most cases, the drug of choice at school is alcohol. Using both alcohol and marijuana at the same time is known to speed up the effects of alcohol and enhances the experience. This does not seem to bother the student at all. "Using marijuana while drinking prevents hangovers," he said. "It is a more relaxing drunk." The effects are known to differ from person to person. The same goes with marijuana alone. And did this user plan on quitting using marijuana someday? "Yes, because I have to think about my future career and family and keep these responsibilities close to heart." http://www.420magazine.com/forums/in...-reliever.html |
