With no less than three bills involving the decriminalization and medicinal use of marijuana currently pending before Congress, the green-friendly masses are gearing up to strike while the iron (or is that cherry?) is hot. Get ready for the DC Marijuana March, coming this May 8th.
This DC iteration of the Worldwide Marijuana March will kick off at noon at Lafayette Park directly in front of the White House, then move down 16th St. for a rally featuring seven bands and a slew of legalization and anti-Drug War advocates at Meridian Hill Park in Columbia Heights. Though the march will counterparts throughout the country and world, the stakes are pretty high — no pun intended — right here in the nation’s capital. The DC City Council is set to vote on a measure that would legalize medical marijuana in the District on April 20th (seriously, they chose April 20th). In advance the march, DC-based activists, Students for Sensible Drug Policy, will be holding a benefit at The Rock and Roll Hotel on May 2nd, featuring Bad Brains frontman H.R.’s reggae outfit, Human Rights, Feed Good Cabbage and Johnny Bonneville. Tickets are $8 in advance or $10 at the door. More details on this year’s DC Marijuana March can be found on Facebook. http://www.420magazine.com/forums/in...ch-2010-a.html |
