NE: Marijuana Party Fails To Collect Enough Signatures To Get On November Ballot

The Marijuana Party will not be listed near the Republican, Democrat or Libertarian Parties on the Nebraska ballot this November.

Organizers failed to collect the necessary 5,395 valid signatures – at least 1 percent of the total votes cast for governor in the 2014 general election – to put the party on the ballot.

Volunteers had turned in about 9,000 petition signatures, but only 4,353 were found to be valid, according to a press release from Secretary of State John Gale.

The signatures also did not reach the 1 percent threshold in any of Nebraska’s three congressional districts.

Mark Elworth Jr. of Omaha has been leading the recognition effort and is the party’s vice presidential candidate.
