Santa Cruz – Santa Cruz County will debut a new medical cannabis website Monday to accept online registration from cannabis cultivators operating in the countys unincorporated areas.
For those without computer access, a kiosk will be available at the county Governmental Center, 701 Ocean St.
The cost to register each site is $3,500; additional fees apply for background checks and site inspections. The Cannabis Licensing Office, Room 520 at the Governmental Center, will accept fees.
County spokesman Jason Hoppin indicated registration will be offered for 90 days.
Cultivators must demonstrate they have been cultivating medical cannabis in Santa Cruz County since January 2013 or that they have been engaged in commercial farming of another agricultural product in a commercial agricultural zone for the last three years.
The county indicated those who register will be informed of the degree to which their cultivation site complies with existing cultivation regulations, including the current 99-plant limit.
Those who register will be required to complete a registration application form, applicant-owner certification form, personal background form and a security plan form, and meet other requirements.
The registration is a prerequisite to obtain a medical cannabis cultivation license from the county, which will be needed for cultivators to be sanctioned by the state under the Medical Marijuana Regulation and Safety Act.
A proposed new licensing ordinance is being drafted for consideration by the Santa Cruz County Board of Supervisors.
The cannabis licensing office website will go live Monday at co.santa-cruz.ca.us/
