The names of the top applicants to be licensed to grow and process medical marijuana in Maryland are scheduled to be made public.

The Maryland Medical Cannabis Commission is set to make the announcement Monday afternoon.

Earlier this month, the commission approved the top applicants in line for 15 grower licenses and 15 processor licenses. The panel also chose five applicants to be alternates in each category, in case any of the top 15 fail to be licensed after background checks.

The commission is expected to grant 94 dispensary licenses out of 811 applications later this year. Medical cannabis is not expected to be available from Maryland dispensaries until next year.

Maryland’s medical marijuana program has suffered setbacks and delays since the state’s first law was approved in 2013.
