DC city council voted to prohibit the testing for cannabis until after theyve made a conditional job offer.
The bill sponsored by City Councilmen Vincent Orange was endorsed unanimously by the City Council.Councilmen Orange stated, district residents shouldnt have to worry about lost job opportunities just because theyve smoked pot, especially now that the city has voted to legalize marijuana possession.
Even though the bill is a city law and not a Federal one FBI director James Comey Had made it known that their cannabis testing policy was making it hard to fight cyber crime.
According to the Wall Street Journal, director Comey stated that if the FBI hopes to continue to keep pace with cyber criminals, the organization may have to loosen up its no-tolerance policy for hiring those who like to smoke marijuana.
Especially with the huge number of hackers that are on the payroll of not so friendly state actor like China and Russia.
I have to hire a great workforce to compete with those cyber criminals and some of those kids want to smoke weed on the way to the interview, Mr. Comey said to the White Collar Crime Institute, an annual conference held at the New York City Bar Association in 2014.
Initiative 71 was on the November 4, 2014, ballot for voters in the District of Columbia, where it was approved.Initiative 71 permitted the use of up to two ounces of marijuana and the possession and cultivation of up to three marijuana plants.
Although almost 65 percent of voters approved legalizing small amounts of marijuana in the nations capital, the fate of the measure ultimately rested with the national legislative body in which D.C. voters had no voting representatives.
City and federal laws gave Congress a 30-day window to review the citys measure and either reject it or let it stand.Congress did not act to strike down the initiative and the law went into effect on February 26, 2015.
Hopefully, with the relaxation of cannabis laws in the US will lead to more opportunities for cannabis users, especially the coders and hackers that protect America from cyber warfare.
